+WHAT WE LOVE:
Sicura was founded by Ernest Schneider in the early 1960s. Schneider had a vision for the brand to produce robust and affordable watches, and many of the timepieces were characterized by their quirky and unique designs.
In the 1970s, the Swiss watch industry was going through the infamous "Quartz Crisis". Traditional Swiss mechanical watchmakers faced stiff competition from cheap and highly accurate quartz watches primarily from Japan. During this turbulent period, many traditional Swiss watch companies faced financial difficulties, including the iconic brand Breitling.
Ernest Schneider, the man behind Sicura, acquired Breitling in 1979. After the acquisition, the Sicura brand slowly faded into the background as Schneider focused on reviving Breitling, which under his leadership successfully navigated the Quartz Crisis and retained its reputation as a premium watchmaker.
Today, Sicura watches are not widely produced, but vintage models are often appreciated for their novel designs and functionalities, serving as a reminder of a particular era in watchmaking.
